The Event

 The First War

The first war that Tie Figther Alliance was in was against NRN.  Basically pilots from both side flew each other and then reported the scores to each side via email.

I got tired of the emails real fast and created a form that would take the scores and put them into HTML code so I could just cut and paste the stuff sent via email into a page and it worked great.

Unfortunately the other club was not so slick and consequently did not have their tally of the scores up till almost 3 weeks after the war was over.  Of course our tally was different from theirs and of course both tally's had there own club as the winner of the war. This was not good.

 TFA Squad Wars

After the first war I decided to try to do the tally with a database script.  People could put in their scores and the system would keep track of which person was winning and which squad was winning.  Best of all, it would be Real Time so that if there was a problem, it could be fixed while the games were still fresh in the minds of the pilots.

It started off being just an Internal Event for TFA, but was quickly expanded to allow  TFA vs Another Club, then expanded to TFA vs Several Clubs, then we had a big TFA vs Rebels War and while the Database held it's end, there was a problem.

The problem was that there was always a mismatch of available players wanting to play.  Sometimes there would be a whole mess of TFA looking for available Rebels, some times it would be the other way around. This was not good.

 Week of War

The solution to the problem was pretty simple, don't have a Side A vs Side B war.  Have a Free-For-All where any club could play any other club.  This solved the waiting-for-opponets situation nicely as well as got clubs to play against other clubs.  Any Club with a Web site was allowed to play as long as they agreed to obey the rules.  This system went on to be the premeir event in the Xwing vs Tie Fighter Community.
